I'm officially in Florence, Italy! Wow. I'm not going to lie, I honestly didn't think this trip would happen. With COVID-19 still being a pain and the new omicron variant, talks about various study abroad programs cancelling was all I was hearing the month of December. I'm so relieved to say that I made it! This past week has flown by, which is scary because I am hoping the semester won't go by too fast.
I've been here in Florence for officially a week now and everyday I am in awe of this beautiful city. I am constantly pinching myself because I cannot comprehend that I get to live here for 5 months. Even saying that sounds strange. Yes, this past week has been an ABSOLUTE dream, but it hasn't been super easy either. Culture shock is REAL. I'm not having a very difficult time adjusting, but there have been a couple of bumps so far. I think my biggest obstacle right now is the language barrier. Especially going to the grocery store. Ugh even thinking about it is giving me anxiety. But practice makes perfect right? I'm excited to see if my Italian gets any better by May. Cross your fingers!
This week consisted of a bunch of walking tours for Kent's orientation. I think everyday I walked a total of 6 miles! I am definitely getting a workout to say the least LOL. This past weekend my roommates and I also visited the Gucci Gardens, which was very cool. The museum consisted of two floors where guests can walk around and learn about Gucci's different collections over the years. I swear you could take pictures in every room and every single one would be instagram worthy :)
This weekend my roommates and I also decided to visit Piazzale Michelangelo at sunset. And let me tell you, this view does NOT disappoint. Fair warning: the walk up to this location is a bit difficult, however it is 100% worth it. Plus, it's a great workout. In terms of location, Piazzale Michelangelo is about a 30-35 minute walk from my apartment. My apartment is about an 8 minute walk from the Kent State Florence Campus (Palazzo Vettori) and about a 15 minute walk from the Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore (aka the Duomo)!
